How Many Devices Can One Telegram Account Log Into?
How Many Devices Can One Telegram Account Log Into at the Same Time? Can Phone and PC Be Used Together?
Telegram has a very useful characteristic: unlike many instant messaging apps, it does not require keeping only one primary device online.
The same Telegram account can be logged into a phone, a computer, and other devices at the same time.
So using Telegram on your phone while also logging in on a Mac, Windows PC, or another device is not an abnormal operation.
Telegram's official FAQ also clearly states that users can use Telegram on multiple devices at the same time.
Can phone and computer be logged in at the same time?
Of course they can.
This is a very common and normal way to use Telegram.
For example, you reply to messages on Telegram Desktop during work, and continue viewing chats on your phone after leaving work.
Most ordinary cloud chats will sync across different devices.
So there is no need to log out of your phone in order to log in on your computer.
Why do I see several online devices after buying an account?
This situation is worth paying attention to.
If it is an account you registered yourself, the extra devices can basically be identified.
But if it is a third-party account you bought, after opening Devices you may see some sessions left over from before.
These devices may come from the account delivery process, or they may belong to someone who used the account previously.
If you plan to use it long term, you should check these sessions.
Telegram officially provides:
Settings → Devices
In some versions it is also displayed as:
Privacy and Security → Active Sessions
Users can view and manage login devices here.
Can I log other devices out?
Yes.
For devices that you confirm are no longer in use or that you do not recognize at all, you can end the corresponding sessions.
This is also an important security check after taking over an account.
However, before handling it, first make sure that your current device can indeed log in normally and that you have the necessary account security information.
Do not accidentally lose the only session through which you can access the account.
Are more simultaneously logged-in devices always better?
Of course not.
Telegram supporting multiple devices does not mean it is necessary to keep dozens of devices online at the same time.
For ordinary users, the usual one phone, one computer, and one tablet are already completely enough.
If an account suddenly shows sessions on many different devices in different regions, that itself does not look like the natural usage pattern of an ordinary individual user.
So "Telegram supports multiple devices" and "unlimited arbitrary logins" are two different concepts.
Will logging out a device delete the chat history?
Telegram's ordinary chats are mainly stored in the cloud.
According to official statements, after a user logs out of a device, cloud messages are still retained.
However, Secret Chats are different from ordinary cloud chats. Telegram officially points out that after logging out, the secret chats on that device and the messages within them will be lost.
Ordinary users mostly deal with cloud chats in daily use.
Focus on Active Sessions for purchased accounts
If the account is purchased, I think the Devices page is a must-check area.
This is especially true for accounts you plan to use long term, operate channels with, or use to manage important groups.
At the very least, you should know:
How many devices are currently online;
Whether these devices are yours;
Whether there are any completely unfamiliar logins;
Whether you are currently the only one who can manage the account.
Many people's first move after buying an account is to change the profile picture, but checking the online devices is actually far more important than changing the picture.
